Ontario Orders Closure Of Private Career College
Green Beauty Esthetics College of Canada In Violation Of Private Career Colleges Act
March 19, 2009
A Toronto-based private career college has been shut down after violating the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005.
Green Beauty Esthetics College of Canada Ltd. cannot operate as a private career college in Ontario. It cannot deliver vocational programs or solicit or accept applications from students.
The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities' Superintendent of Private Career Colleges ordered Green Beauty to cease operation. The Superintendent refused to renew the registration of Green Beauty as a private career college based on its inability to meet the requirements of the act.
No students were registered at Green Beauty Esthetics College of Canada at the time of its closure.
To operate in Ontario, private career colleges must be registered and have their programs approved by the ministry under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005. This act ensures that the colleges meet certain standards for the programs they offer, as well as for their advertising, refund policies, and instructor qualifications.
Green Beauty reported a net loss in three consecutive fiscal years, and failed to enroll students in any of its vocational programs for at least two successive periods while it was registered as a private career college. During site inspections, ministry staff also confirmed the college was offering an unapproved registered massage therapy program at its North York campus.
A complete listing of the orders issued to Green Beauty Esthetics College of Canada is available on the ministry's Notices and Orders website. Students can use the ministry's online search service to find registered private career colleges and approved programs in Ontario.
