McGuinty Government Salutes Employers for Training Apprentices

Four Ontario employers are being recognized for their dedication to training the next generation of skilled workers.

The annual Minister's Awards for Apprenticeship Training celebrate employers that show leadership in training apprentices, support the apprenticeship training system, and promote careers in skilled trades. The 2012 winners are:

  • Bergeron Electric Ltd., Cornwall
  • Cementation Canada Inc., North Bay
  • Fred Hook Ltd., Midland
  • Steelcraft Inc., Stratford

Recognizing employers and helping apprentices are part of the McGuinty government's plan to create jobs, grow the economy and help every Ontarian succeed.

  • There are more than 120,000 apprentices learning a skilled trade today — 60,000 more than in 2002-03.
  • New annual apprenticeship registrations have grown to over 30,000 in 2011-12 — up from 17,100 in 2002-03.
  • This is the 10th year of the awards, with more than 200 employers nominated since 2002.
