Transformation of Employment and Training Services

SkillsAdvance Ontario

SkillsAdvance Ontario (SAO) is a new sector-focused workforce development pilot. It will support partnerships that bring together sector-based employers and employment and training providers, to develop a pool of job-ready, skilled workers that meet their workforce development needs.

SkillsAdvance Ontario will support participating employers through:

  • Identifying workforce development needs, specifically entry-level vacancies in low and medium-skill occupations.
  • Determining the employability, essential, and technical skills required for jobseekers to succeed in the jobs for which vacancies are identified.
  • Matching and placing trained, job ready candidates to fill those vacancies.

It will help and support jobseekers who are further from the labour market obtain employment in participating sectors through:

  • Sector-focused pre-employment preparation and skills training (resulting in an industry recognized certificate).
  • Intensive sector-focused employment services that help move participants from training into job and career opportunities.

SkillsAdvance Ontario projects will provide the ministry the opportunity to test the effectiveness and efficiencies of sector-focused, partnership-based programming. They will also bridge the gap between foundational and higher-level occupational training.
