Career Transformation Assistance

Career Transition Assistance

In January 2009, the Federal Government announced through the 2009 Budget two measures designed to provide long tenured workers participating in training earlier or extended access to regular EI part I income benefits

  • The Severance Investment for Training Initiative (SITI) allows earlier access to EI Part I regular benefits for long-tenured workers who wish to pay for their own training using all or part of their severance package.
  • The Extended EI and Training Incentive (EEITI) provides up to 104 weeks of EI Part I regular benefits to long-tenured workers while they are on long-term training.

These two incentives will be delivered through the Ontario Skills Development and Second Career Program, eligible to those clients who bring in a Long Tenured Worker letter from Service Canada. All eligible clients must meet with an Employment Ontario counsellor; complete a Return to Work Action Plan (RTWAP) which identifies skills training as the best intervention.
