Here are some numbers to consider:

• On average university graduates earn $1 million more over their lifetime than those without a postsecondary education.
• Between 1990 and 2004, 1.5 million jobs were created for university graduates.
• 2003 unemployment rates of postsecondary graduates, high school graduates and high school dropouts were, respectively: 7, 9, and 15%.

We want any Ontario resident who wants to pursue a postsecondary education to follow their dreams. That's why over the last five years, we've invested $1.5 billion a year into the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP). The Student Access Guarantee ensures that every qualified Ontarian can get a postsecondary education.

The Ontario government is joining the federal Repayment Assistance Program to provide students with more help in repaying their Ontario student loan. Under the program, no graduate will be asked to pay more than 20% of their family income towards their loans. After 15 years, any remaining student loan debt is forgiven.

The good news is, if you change your mind, you might be able to transfer credits that you've already earned toward a new program.

Any skill you learn in school is also transferable. Employers today look for workers with a broad set of skills because a range of knowledge helps with innovation and problem solving.

It's true that colleges and universities can feel intimidating. But so was the first day of high school. If you do feel out-of-place, schools provide support and opportunities for their students through a wide range of student groups, services and resources.

There is more to an admission offer than just good grades. Schools also consider:

• Participation in any extracurricular activities
• Participation in school events
• Involvement in sports
• Involvement in your community
• Volunteer experience

Today's job market is a lot different than it was twenty or thirty years ago. An estimated 70% of new jobs in the next decade will require postsecondary education, up from about 60% in the last 10 years.

The majority of graduates from apprenticeship programs earn incomes above the national average. In the Windsor area, for example, it is not uncommon for a skilled tool and die maker to average $100,000 annually, including overtime.
