Canadian Students

Over 65,000 out-of-province postsecondary students from across Canada call Ontario their home. Studying in Ontario offers you the opportunity to get an education in virtually any field imaginable.

Here's what you need to know to study in Ontario:

General Requirements

You'll need to complete high school in your home province, and cover your program prerequisites.

Course calendars are a great source of information about entrance requirements. Visit school websites for information on student services, housing, scholarships, tuition fees and other costs. Get a calendar by contacting the office of admissions or by visiting the website of the school you're interested in.

How to Apply

Colleges

Canadian students residing outside of Ontario can apply through ontariocolleges.ca

Universities

All out-of-province undergraduate students, and certain professional program students, can apply for full-time studies through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre. Part-time students can apply directly through the school.

Transfer Your Credits

Credits from Canadian postsecondary schools outside Ontario are generally assessed on a course-by-course, school-by-school basis.

Financial Assistance

Canada Student Loans, Grants and Scholarships are available to all Canadians. If you're a Canadian citizen and a resident of Ontario for at least 12 months you may be eligible for OSAP.

Some colleges and universities offer emergency loans. You may find this information on school websites, in course calendars or by contacting the school's financial aid office.

Health Coverage

If you are coming to study in Ontario you must maintain health coverage from your home province. Out of province students do not qualify for the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), as out of provinces student are classified as "temporary residents" when studying here in Ontario. You must arrange this with your home province health insurance provider.
